Bitpay has enforced new measures that forbid the adult content merchants to use their services. While the main idea of bitcoin is decentralization, it seems that the network is exposed to censorship.
A user posted the information on Twitter after he received a notification from Bitpay that specifies new updates regarding the terms and conditions.
The platform updated the terms and conditions of February 2 and will not allow accounts that deal with sexually explicit content.Besides that the cryptocurrency service provider based in Atlanta, Georgia, has added to the list other prohibited activities like sales of narcotics and other controlled substances, ammunition, firearms, fireworks, and weapons.
The payments platform will continue its users to use the services two more months. After taking this decision, Bitpay advised the customers to move all their funds on other platforms to avoid fund loses.
Starting April 25, 2018, Bitpay will suspend all the accounts associated with pornographic content distribution.
While Bitpay’s decision comes as a surprise or the whole industry, the decision to ban the pornography merchants has created intense discussions on social media. Some of the users are criticizing the decision since it is against bitcoin’s ideal.
The irony of a #Bitcoin payment processor blocking payment uses similar to visa/MasterCard or PayPal do! The point of Bitcoin, no middleman to block you – be your own merchant @BtcpayServer and #LightningCharge https://t.co/waRCi1Jyfe

With the blockchain technology, the companies have promised a tool able to deliver decentralized policies along with neutral information storage for every user. While most of the companies are reaching for those goals, it seems that the blockchain is not spared o censorship after all.
According to the current legislation, Bitpay is a private company that can reserve its rights to chose who can use their services or not.
Some users have also stated that Bitpay’s current position is in contradictory with bitcoin’s ideology which results in a huge distrust in the community.
Reportedly, after the announcements, a lot of users have started to shift towards other bitcoin payment platforms while others have taken the news more lightly and made jokes on the subject.
