The North American Bitcoin Conference was held in a 20,000 square foot strip club in Miami. According to Bloomberg, the 5,000 attendees were invited after 10 hours of speeches and networking to relax at a party with professional strippers.
The organizer of the event was Moe Levin, the CEO of Keynote and the stated that the venue was the ideal place for networking. He defended his choice by saying that the nude performances did not start only after the conference was over.
The strip club is well known for aerial acrobats and permissive policies towards touching. The waitresses served the attendees in sexy lingerie and after the event, most of them stayed for the party, according to Bloomberg.
“We’re a bunch of dudes with a lot of money in our 20s. We like naked girls,” stated Jeff Scott, one of the participants.
He also added that he got a table for his peers and the night went like a night in a strip club would go.
While during the event, everything went smoothly, with project presentations and sharing opinions about the future of the blockchain industry, not all participants agreed with the bold idea.
The CEO of Dash Core Group stated for Bloomberg that he had no idea that the convention would be held in a strip club and he added that he was very disappointed. Furthermore, the women who attended the event had a negative impression of the venue. Stating that the party made them feel uncomfortable, as Bloomberg report.
Zineb Belmkaddem, a cryptocurrency trader, said that she does not have a problem with strip clubs in general, but in this situation, there was a negative message sent to women attending the conference.
Moe Levin says Bitcoin is a religion. Can we make it less chauvinist, and sexist than so many religions before it? Thx. My thoughts from attending #TNABC . If this community claims to be different from wall street, perhaps some things need adjustments. pic.twitter.com/XQbjrRL2D1

Keynote representatives have said that they are currently taking steps towards improving the gender balance at the next year’s event. The firs this they will do is inviting women to speak. According to them, in 2017, 85 speeches from a total of 88 were held by men.
While Keynote wishes to raise the number of women attendees for next year’s event, we believe that it would be a good idea to avoid strip clubs for the moment.
