Samsung has started the production of ASIC mining chips for the hardware manufacturer Halong Mining. The rig retailer MyRig posted recently a tweet which confirmed the rumors. The chips will be made from semiconductor materials, and they will be very thin, almost as thin as a strand of hair (10nm).
In the past months, many people have started complaining about the services provided by the market leader regarding crypto miners, Bitmain. The miners have switched their attention to Dragonmint T1, the hardware produced by Halong Mining.
Good news…cuz Bitmain is terrible at customer support! As terrible as even losing your money while shipping your machine.” stated one of the unhappy customers
Some of the users have praised the equipment by stating that the performances are exceeding the Antminer S9.
However, not long ago there were some discussions revolving around the idea that Halong Mining is a scam. Multiple threads on bitcoin.org and bitcointalk were suggesting that the Dragonmit miners were only rebranded devices made by Innosilicon. The originals were reportedly created illegally with unsupported algorithms.
On the other hand representatives from one of the biggest mining pools in the world have stated recently that they have already mined an entire bitcoin block with the Dragonmint.
“Now Dragon [is] Flying , this is what powers along mining DragonMint T1. Yes Samsung and Yes 10nm. i’m sure someone had seen some news in the past about it from big foundry about bitcoin and cryptos.”
An ASIC chip is a very important part of the hardware. They are designed for specific tasks as in the case of mining devices. ASIC comes from Application Specific Integrated Circuit and it has its own role for transmission protocols
At the end of January 2018, Samsung announced that it has started to produce bitcoin and cryptocurrency mining technologies and ASIC mining chips.
As we’ve reported at that time, a spokesperson from the company declared that Samsung is making this leap because the cryptocurrency industry has become very popular and profitable.
Also, in order to meet the high demands, Samsung will expand its distribution from South Korea to Japan. Samsung will also open a factory only for mining equipment manufacturing.
