The Taiwan-based smartphone company HTC has started working on a new phone backed by the blockchain. The new smartphone will be called Exodus, and it will run on the Android operating system. The company announced in a blog post that the smartphone is going to be entirely created for decentralized applications (DApps) and security.
HTC Exodus will be the first created blockchain phone, and it will have an underlying protocol for expanding the base of dedicated nodes for each application. The system will help the expansion of the blockchain ecosystem, according to the blog post.
“Through the Exodus, we are also excited to be supporting underlying protocols such as Bitcoin, Lightning Networks, Ethereum, Dfinity, and more,” said Phil Chen, Decentralized Chief Officer at HTC Exodus.
The HTC executive also wrote that this is the company’s first step in supporting the entire blockchain ecosystem. He added that in the following months they are going to announce blockchain partnerships which will help them bring the technology closer to mainstream adoption.

Regarding the launch of the product he declared:
“We’ll also be releasing some more white papers in the July-August time frame that have more of that, can have the phone be a node as opposed to mid-to-high-end servers.We’re going to do a pre-sale, and we’ll accept ethereum and bitcoin, for the pre-order.”
Recently another key player in the world of smartphones announced its intention to explore the utility of the blockchain technology. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei announced that is launching a bitcoin portfolio application which will be pre-installed on all the new devices. Huawei designed the wallet in partnership with BTC.com
LG Launching a Blockchain Project
On the same page, we have South Korea’s LG which announced on May 13 that the company is going to launch a blockchain platform, dubbed Monachain. According to the release LG stated that the new platform will have many utilities, from finance, communications to manufacturing.
Besides this, the Monachain will have features like digital certification, digital supply, chain management and a cryptocurrency.
Through the launch of the Mona Chain, we will concentrate on creating successful cases in various industries including finance, telecommunications, and manufacturing,” Hyun Shin-Kyun, LG’s Chief Technology Officer.
Furthermore, the Monachain platform will enable the users to create cryptocurrency wallets and manage their financial activities. At the moment the company is looking for partners to support the project.
